CONFERENCE VISION AND IEEE PUBLICATIONS

VISION OF WEEF/GEDC 2021

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of UNESCO establishes clearly, among other areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet, goals and targets for the Quality of Education, Sustainable Quality Education 4 (SDG 4). These goals have to be implemented by all countries and stakeholders. WEEF/GEDC 2021, aware of this scenario, aims to be one of these global stakeholders. Its vision is aligned with the SDG 4 which is formulated as the basis for, encompassing many different aspects in Higher Education and in particular in Engineering Education, the creation of sustainable development of technical and soft competences, inclusive education and effective in terms of learning outcomes related to the professional market and entrepreneurship.

In detail, one of the most important and urgent topics on the evolving path of our world is the need to go back to the Ethical and Sustainable orientation of the Engineering profession. This can be achieved using efficiently our resources focusing on our global world needs and having in mind our local possibilities and characteristics through Engineering Education Societies and their members. All groups involved in this process are key people and altogether we will share the space of WEEF/GEDC 2021 between students and associations, academia deans, administrators and teachers, education engineering associations to maximize the synergy.

Some past emerging countries are now giants and they are doing a lot of efforts, as well (green plantations and trees/forests, smart cities, avoiding pollution new actions, etc.).

However, the political frameworks are far away from the civil wishes, as was clearly shown in the last COP25 World Climate Summit celebrated in Madrid from the 2nd to the 13th of December 2019. Over 25,000 representatives from 200 countries met to reach agreements and commitments between nations to fight against the effects of climate change. But no agreements were taken.

This is another reflect of the deviation of the political elite and the scientific and civil communities, as well from some young new incomers that everyday are so far away on those principles and on the ways of actions. Year by year, our ethical and sustainable vision inside the Engineering Education must continue to penetrate inside our practitioner and academic communities. This is our responsibility.

In our open access publication Editorial for the Journal, iJEP (International Journal of Engineering Pedagogy), Guest Editorial: From Technology Enhanced Learning to Ethics and Critical Thinking as part of the Engineering Education: Skill Driven with Humanities Comprehension

We remarked that:
  1. The number one lesson learned is that the views of the political elite deviate to such a vast extent from the insights of the scientific and civil communities. Similarly, some young newcomers gain influence though currently being so far away from scientific principles, practical experiences and the ways of actions.
  2. Second one is that we are in a deadlock. Once again, we postponed the main decisions and key actions to the year 2020. It is a shame that mankind never seems to learn the lessons from the past and again favours the ‘no action’ as the action for the future.
  3. Some past emerging countries and nations are now giants and although they are undertaking a lot of efforts like green plantations and trees/forests, smart cities, pollution new actions, etc., their political frameworks seem far away from civil wishes based on Western democratic values.
  4. And our last impression is that year after year, our ethical and sustainable vision of engineering education must continue to penetrate inside our practitioner and academic communities, to reinforce our actions and commitment to the global society.
Ethical behaviour, responsibility and the alignment of our efforts on a sustainable and greener future must be a core part of us and our actions. IEEE emphasizes their vision and orientation on the lemma ‘advancing technology for humanity’ as the cornerstone where engineering, education and life merges.

Those will be the basement points of the conference organization and the main areas of interest, Ethical on Education Engineering and their deployment as well as the wider aspects of Sustainability, inside and outside of our Education Engineering world.

Diversity and Ethics in Education for an Inclusive and Sustainable World
VISION OF THE CONFERENCE

The Local Organizing Committee is very ambitious in designing very attractive conference and suggested the participation of local well-known experts in each of the fields.

The Organizing Committee believes that our aims will be fully satisfied and concur with the audience (nearly 1,000 attendees) in considering the result of the WEEF/IFEES/GEDC as outstanding according to the high scientific value of the lectures, oral presentations, workshops and social programme.

The goal is to open a forum to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience and to invigorate the field with young and senior engineers from all over the world

Madrid has its own way of life that makes it truly unique and special

For all those reasons we are preparing a hybrid conference based in the security of face to face communication and interaction on the came back to the routines and social interaction but having in mind all the safest and healthiest procedures that will be on effect during the conference celebration.

Our main goal is to open a forum to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience and to invigorate the field with young and senior engineers from all over the world but being as much as diverse and inclusive and having in mind the need to maintain a highly interactive environment of online collaboration for those people that cannot be on site due to any problem of mobility, health, economy or other main issue.
