Students Program

The 2021 WEEF-GEDC Student Experience will gather youth, across the globe, in the STEAM community to engage in a 1-week program built to strengthen a set of skills coveted by academia and industry alike.

Participants will reinforce abilities in networking, teamwork, research, communication, leadership, among others.

Join in the worldwide Hackathon "The Decade of Action: A quest for a sustainable world." where we will challenge you to design engineering solutions for the UN's Decade of Action, a global call to accelerate sustainable solutions to all the world biggest challenges framed in the Sustainable Development Goals. This event will continue the momentum from COP26, where key actors will gather to increase action to tackle the climate crisis, one of the main obstacles in achieving the Decade of Action.

A Hackathon is a sprint-like collaborative design event, in which students use their wit and inventiveness to create a product from scratch. Students are highly encouraged to hack into real world problems and collaborate intensively to innovate and develop influential solutions using engineering and technology.

A hackathon can typically last anywhere from 24 hours to a full week. For this year’s WEEF&GEDC, we will distribute sessions throughout the 7 days of the event so that students can take full advantage of all conferences to incorporate what they learn into their projects. Team size can vary, in our case, from 4-5 students. They will be organized so that they are culturally diverse while procuring compatibility of time zones (for online teams). Each team will be coached by SPEED facilitators to aid in project development. At the end, all teams will present their solutions and selected judges will determine the most efficient and pertinent solution to be the hackathon winner.

Six working groups have gathered in developing panels and workshops for your enjoyment in Career pathways and Opportunities for Students, Mental Health in a Competitive World, Inclusivity in Engineering, Making a GLOCAL Impact, and Engineering Education - The Student Perspective.
